Four years ago, I had the opportunity to attend a charitable golf outing sponsored by the Family Reach Foundation. My initial sentiment was a day on the golf course for a worthy cause with friends would be a pleasurable experience (although my golf game left a lot to be desired). I make it a point to mark my calendar for this annual event. During the evening banquet at the first outing, a father gave testimony, a passionate affirmation, on how the Family Reach Foundation has been supportive and instrumental in coping with the financial needs associated with the medical care for his sick child. I was so touched by his words on how the Family Reach Foundation was able to provide the much needed help for him, his family, and his child and overcoming the despair and hopelessness which had pervaded this family unit.

Like many individuals, I am constantly being sought to provide financial support to various charitable organizations. The Family Reach Foundation is a very unique organization which reaches out to provide hope and aid to families in distress. In arranging to reach out to those in desperate need, the Family Reach Foundation is not only worthy of my continued support but also the support of others as well.

I have been a friend of Kristine's brother, Brian, for almost 20 years now (Kristine was one the inspirations for the Foundation). Over that time, I have become very close with the Morello Family (co-founders of Family Reach). When Kristine was diagnosed with cancer, it was such a trying time for her and her family. The thing I will never forget, though, is how courageous and strong she was during that time.

I decided to be a loyal contributor to the Foundation as a reminder of what a wonderful person Kristine was. I also want to show support for the Morello family, all of those young people who are so brave in fighting cancer, and to help their families in any way possible. It's such a difficult time for these kids and their families. By donating to the Foundation, I know I can help improve a child's day and alleviate some of the pressures that a family is enduring at that time.

It's extremely heartwarming to hear how the money has helped kids and families. When you see the patients and their families at the golf outings and dinners and hear how the Foundation has made a positive impact on their lives, you can't help, but get a little emotional. You're hearing first hand how the charity has helped numerous families and how grateful they are for the existence of this Foundation. It makes me proud that I can help these people out and will continue to donate to the Family Reach Foundation for years to come.

Originally this started as a day of golf supporting a fellow employee and the fact that some money went into a memorial fund was really an after thought. However, once you go to the event and see and listen to the family members who lost children express their hopes and plans for helping others that have children afflicted with cancer it becomes a cause with a side benefit of golf. We donate to this cause as a way of saying thank you for having had 4 children who are healthy and to honor two courageous families for helping others during their time of need.

Listening to care providers and monetary recipients talk about what this organization does for them and other patients not only brings a tear to your eye but makes you feel proud that you have a small part in helping these two courageous families help others in their time of need.

We support Family Reach Foundation first of all because we knew and loved Kristine. She was a big part of the group of our daughter Jen's friends that hung around our house as kids, and into adulthood. Barbara and I have many fond memories. Kris loved a good joke and I remember her rushing up to me at times, filled with eagerness, to tell me the latest one. And Barbara spent a lot of time with Kristine after she became ill. So it is Kristine's memory that is the main reason we will always be loyal to the Foundation.

Secondly, we like the way the Foundation is run. You raise money by providing a good time for the contributors and then select people with real needs and help them in areas where little help is available. You are just a few dedicated people and you are making a real difference in so many lives. And I never felt that you were selling names. Sometimes when I contribute to a cause it creates a deluge of mail from similar causes.

And third, I am just so proud of your success. I never expected it to be so successful, to see it still going and helping so many people. It's just great.
