“Carletta”, Age 18, Massachusetts
December 2011 - Carletta, age 18 traveled with her mother to the United States for treatment following her diagnosis of Synovial Cell Sarcoma, a type of cancer of the soft-tissue. When the treatment period was extended, Carletta’s mother was forced to give up her job back home. With no family support or friends nearby, initially Carletta and her mom stayed with an acquaintance one and a half hours away from the hospital. Extended family members later provided funds for lodging closer to the hospital but the family incurred high costs associated with treatment, meals and phone charges so financial assistance from Family Reach was requested.
Family Reach provided a grant of $950 to assist the family with phone charges, transportation and meals associated with treatment .
