Family Reach Wins Multiple Grants to Support its Mission

Corporate Foundations Recognizing the Great Need
to Assist Families Fighting Cancer

Parsippany, NJ – August 30, 2011 – Family Reach Foundation became the recipient of multiple foundation grants over the last few months, generating tens of thousands of dollars of support to help families fighting the extreme challenges of cancer.

“We are very honored that so many charitable foundations have recognized our work and endless quest to bring financial relief and emotional support to families fighting cancer,” said Family Reach Executive Director, Rick Morello. “We do our absolute best to demonstrate our impact and offer grantors an opportunity to be a part of our cause.”

Over the last few years, Family Reach has increased its efforts to apply for grants from large corporate foundations, industry associations, and other groups who award gifts to nonprofit organizations that serve the needs of families.  Given its consistent growth and geographic expansion, helping families in over 20 states through partnerships with 15 hospitals, Family Reach has been able to demonstrate how it is addressing the large need that exists when families face a cancer diagnosis.

Family Reach has been awarded grants from the following organizations since the beginning of 2011:

  • The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF). Family Reach received its first grant from the IICF – a $50,000 award to support its work helping families in New York and New Jersey who have a child being treated at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital at New York Presbyterian and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
  • The Genentech Foundation. Family Reach received its second grant from the Genentech Foundation – a $50,000 award to support its mission nationally.
  • The Walmart Foundation.  Family Reach received its second grant from Walmart Foundation – a $25,000 award to support its mission in New England.
  • The Boston Bruins Foundation.  Family Reach received its second grant from the Foundation – a $5,000 award to support its mission in New England.
  • The Greater Boston Association of Realtors.  Family Reach received its first grant from GBAR – a total of $4,500 to support its mission in the Boston area.

“We are extremely grateful to be selected by so many thoughtful, compassionate organizations who have found meaning in our mission,” said Family Reach Director of Development and Special Programs, Carla Tardif. “We look forward to showing each of these grantors how we assist families fighting cancer with dedication and care, and that we indeed can provide relief to families when they need it most.”

About Family Reach Foundation

Family Reach Foundation is a nonprofit organization providing financial relief and heartfelt support to families fighting cancer.  The Foundation strives to reduce the often overwhelming financial and emotional burdens that families experience after a child or parent is diagnosed with cancer.  Family Reach was originally founded in 1996 as a grassroots cancer support fund by the families of Christopher Colangelo and Kristine Morello-Wiatrak, who lost their battles against pediatric cancers in 1981 and 1995 respectively.  Today, Family Reach works closely with leading cancer hospitals and their social workers to identify families in great need and provide timely, critical assistance.  Over the last decade, the Foundation has helped more than 1,500 families pay for everyday expenses and medical costs that often accumulate during a patient’s battle with cancer including mortgage, rent, transportation and insurance co-pays.  Based in Parsippany, NJ and Boston, MA, the Foundation has established a growing network of private and corporate supporters to fund the mission and play a meaningful role in the overall fight against cancer.  For more information, please visit www.familyreach.org.
